1. Playing the edge
2. Detailed
3. Energetic
The song ( closer to the edge- 30 seconds to mars) says a lot about my life and how i design. I am not afraid of living my life. I feel like a lot of people are living far from the edge, they live it safely and miss a lot of experiences.
In the design world you have two sides, save/clean and exciting/complicated.
When listening to the song you have to keep in mind, "i will never forget, i will never regret, i will live my life."
The song starts by telling you, "i don't remember one moment i tried to forget." That's the start of it all. During each verse it takes you to a time that you haven't forgotten. Each time you don't forget and you don't regret a decision good or bad, it brings you closer to the edge (living your life). "Maybe one day we'll meet again" is about looking back at those moments which have made you who you are.
For me, this song means if you forget or regret anything for a reason you are not living your life. In order to live your life you have to take each moment and learn from it.. not regret it.
A large part of the art and skill in yoga lies in sensing just how far to move into a stretch. If you don't go far enough, there is no challenge to the muscles, no intensity, no stretch, and little possibility for opening. Going too far, however, is an obvious violation of the body, increasing the possibility of both physical pain and injury. Somewhere between these two points is a degree of stretch that is in balance: intensity without pain, use without abuse, and strenuousness without strain. You can experience this balance with your project as well by knowing where the edge is.
In daily life, we tend to remain within a familiar but limited comfort zone by staying away from physical, mental, political and social edges. This would be fine except that as aging occurs these limits close in considerably. Our bodies tighten, our range of movement decreases, and our strength and stamina diminish. By consciously bringing the body to its various limits or edges and holding it there, gently nudging it toward more openness with awareness, the long, slow process of closing in begins to reverse itself. The range expands as the edges change. This is exactly what happens with the projects you make, when your doing the almost impossible, courageous decisions it will expand your range because you have experienced playing the edge and how to deal with it.
2. Detailed
A long while ago i knew that i loved architecture and i wanted to continue my life being an architect. But i didn't really understand why they were designing such boring, simple, smooth buildings and not designing buildings as they used to do. In that time i was young and had a lack of knowledge. I figured out later that it is all about the money, the labor was simply just too expensive compared with earlier. That's why i wanted to study architecture to find a way to bring back the detailed buildings. I was lucky that my school had a new study called restoration/transformation of buildings what really suits my interests. It's better to conserve the original historic buildings than imitate them. I am really standing for the historic monuments to conserve them and keep them alive as long as possible. The main reason why i love these buildings is because its so much detailed, they have rich decoration. Even with people i have noticed that i love the details of them, i can see in every humanbeing something different and that is what makes me love that person. A detailed design brings people closer and needs more effort to understand and observe.
3. Energetic
The attribute energetic has a lot of meanings.
I am energetic from myself and you can see that as well in my designs.
Energetic designs means for me these followings things:
- Design that triggers people to react
- Chaotic designs
- Colorful
- No rhythm at all or an obvious rhythm
- Movement
- A lot going on
The object that i will work on is shoes. I am going to choose shoes that i will transform in my kind of design. The theme that i will design with is energetic.
With shoes i can take the theme 'energetic' literally and figuratively.

MOTTO:
Keep yourself together and live your life and do things by playing the edge. Take each moment for what it is and learn from it!
1) I chose these three attributes to identify my style:
These attributes appeals to my liking for the unusual.
1 Geometry
2 Chaos/Order
3 Lively
1 Geometry
Geometry is about shape, size, relative position of figures. I like to combine different kinds of shapes in one design.
- Reference:
Geometric painting
2. Chaos/Order:
I can identify myself as chaos, happily not most of the time. The way I think and design is chaotic. I think chaotic designs can make something move in a persons heart/mind. The most interesting designs for me are the ones who combine chaos and order. Because when you do that you create a storyline, it makes people think. Everyone interpretate it differentely.
3 Lively (Full of life and energy):
Nature, colorful, energy, full of live, movement, warmth
Artgeist is a kind of art what I really love. These artwork is almost always involved as a reference for my projects. In this artwork you see what I mean by lively.
3) The transforming rules:
- Technique reveal
Show the construction and play with free-form curves, surfaces and volumes.
- Chaos/Order
Change the design in the opposite language to that expected. Chase the inappropriate
- Lively
Put some movements in it, diversity, colors, chaos, bright. Make sure it pulls out a positive reaction of people.

Catalyst
A catalyst is one that precipitates a process, especially without being involved in or changed by the consequences; It's something that helps bring about a change.
The catalyst that I’ve chosen is the womans body, the curves.
I transformed a womans body with my attributes in my mind and this is the result. (Right: Paradigm)
Theme project
For this project I decided to transform an existing building in Amsterdam. I chose an exciting building because a building is a big object and needs more time to design it. So i chose the overhoeks tower in Amsterdam. This building has in my eyes similar characters as a woman's body.
Whenever you approach Noord(North) by ferry from Central Amsterdam this striking office building is usually the first thing one notices in the area. The Overhoeks Tower is an eye-catching office complex located opposite Amsterdam Centraal railway station, across the River IJ.
I chose this building because of its perfect location and because it’s an eye catcher. It is not an eye catcher because of the design, but because of its height
- From the central station this building is the first thing you notice. That’s why I think it needs a transformation because of its soberness. But the good thing is it fits with the area.
Combination building and catalyst
If you compare the final design with the catalysator, you can see clearly that there is a connection.
