I believe designing and creating in general is something that should be very personal and heart-felt, sincere.
It should be a matter of focusing ourselves in doing the best, right thing.
It should derive from a complete identification into the subject and should involve all our capabilities: instinct, senses, ratio.

my 3 attributes:

INTUITIVE

like a door handle
senses
-
intuitive is something that can be easily understood. design should be accessible and people who don't know a new object, should be able to understand immediately how to use it and what's its purpose.
door handles have never changed in history since the day they were invented, because they work: they have a simple shape, human brain knows exactly what to do with it when he sees one, even in the remote case he had never seen one before.

the rule: highlightment of core function, more detailed version of it compared to the rest of the object.

EXPRESSIVE

like schiele's art
instinct
-
expressive in the sense it involves instinct to understand which part is more meaningful to me, what is important to highlight, what my gut catches immediately and what make the object more interesting.
schiele's paintings, and I'm referring mostly to his self portraits, appear to me as an anguished, restless but also gratifying process. his emotivity is completely shown in it and it' in fact the subject of its whole art process, rather than method or subjects.

the rule:
disproportionate exaggeration of a meaningful part according to tossed around, instinctive choice.

CLASSICIST

like castiglioni's design
reason, ratio
-
ratio is what makes an object beautiful in the end. I believe the proportions and the reasoned simplicity, make and object stand out from a noisy crowd.
castiglioni's method is perfect to exemplify this attribute because his way of designing clearly demonstrates a subjectivity in taste and method but a general, final regularity and classicism of shapes and combinations.

the rule:
geometrical redemption of complex shapes reconducted to simple, schematic ones for an harmonic whole vision.

PROJECT THEME:
As my first project I'd like to work with a theme connected to cosy things, the things we feel comfortable with.
coffee cup
leather shoes
black classy hat
foldable umbrella

GENERATIVE DESIGN CONFERENCE @ TRIENNALE

I decided to work with a simple PEN.

/////// THE CHOSEN SCENARIO ////////

according to how I transformed the pen above using rules in this particular ratio

CONSIDERATIONS

Of course my final design is only one possible scenario of the many that could be possible applying the rules to different parts of the object or just in different ways.

I'd like to explore many other outputs that can come out of this transformations and maybe analyse the DIFFERENT SCENARIOS/designs that will originate applying the rules and find out if there is a COMMON PATTERN, a common behaviour of shapes, a detail or if all the different scenarios all communicate in the end the mixture of my three attributes: INTUITIVE, EXPRESSIVE, CLASSICIST.

MY FINAL ASSIGNEMENT

I changed my first project using slightly changed rules, I used a PEN again.
After that I made the final project choosing the theme of BIRDWATCHING CABIN (architectural project).
